We recognize that education extends beyond textbooks and theoretical knowledge in today’s fast-evolving world and understand the crucial role of practical skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship in shaping successful careers. Therefore, the Centre for Skill Development of The ICFAI University Sikkim is committed to equipping every students with industry-relevant competencies, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the challenges of the modern workforce.
Objectives
- Integrate Skill-Based Learning: Embed industry-relevant skills within academic courses to enhance students’ employability and professional competence.
- Promote Innovation & Entrepreneurship: To nurture a culture of creativity, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial mind-set through initiatives like Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the University’s Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Club (IIE).
- Enhance Technical Expertise: Provide specialized training in IT and digital skills through partnerships with various institutions & organizations such as NSDC, offering certification programs and skill development initiatives.
- Bridge the Industry-Academia Gap: Align skill development programs with industry demands, ensuring students are equipped with the latest technological and managerial competencies.
- Empower Students with Government Initiatives: Implement skill training under PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana) or PMVK Yojana to provide government-certified vocational training and certification for career advancement.
- Encourage Experiential Learning: Offer hands-on training, workshops, and internships to ensure practical exposure and real-world problem-solving abilities.

Our Approach:
The Centre for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship take pride in seamlessly integrating skill development into our academic structure, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience, technical expertise, and an entrepreneurial mind-set. Our approach includes:
- Skill Components in Regular Courses: We have embedded essential skill-based modules within our curriculum, adopting critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical proficiency across disciplines.
- Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Ministry of Education: Through our active IIC, students engage in ideation, design thinking, and start-up ecosystems, nurturing a culture of creativity and innovation.
- Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship Club: Our dedicated Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club empowers students to transform ideas into reality by providing mentorship, incubation support, and access to entrepreneurial resources.
- Partnership with Government Institutions: We have collaborated with the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) and IIE, Guwahati to offer certification programs in IT and digital technologies, enhancing students’ technical expertise and employability.
- NSDC Partnership & PMVK Yojana: In association with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), we have launched the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana (PMVK), providing students and local artisans and craftsmen with various certified skill trainings in high-demand sectors.
