Moot Court Society

  • Moot court training and Moot court competitions help law students to prepare for their life as an advocate.
  • Mooting helps in building confidence in talking and articulately presenting our views.
  • All skills require training to improve and it is natural to make mistakes in the initial stages.
  • However, even those mistakes will help give you pointers that you can improve from.
  • Mooting aids in boosting a person’s confidence remarkably to the point that even as a fresher or junior lawyer you will not be intimidated to speak and will be able to effectively present their case in front of the judge and the opposing counsel.
  • The Moot Court Society, IU, Sikkim (MCS) is the student’s committee entrusted with the responsibility of administering and facilitating all mooting related activities at the ICFAI University Sikkim.
  • It is tasked in upholding the high standards of excellence we have set with the ultimate goal of realizing our vision of inoculating in the students the essence of merit and ethics.
  • The MCS plans to develop future mooters, as well as to inculcate an interest in mooting in the university.
  • The MCS follows a policy of encouraging participation in mooting from all batches, organizes extensive workshops and demonstrations to enable them to learn the process of mooting and arranges for interactive sessions with experienced mooters and litigators from previous batches.
Moot Court Society

Objectives of MCS

  1. To provide and righteously synchronize programs and activities dealing with or related to the field of law including but not limited to moot courts; mock trials; legal drafting; judgment writing; research; discussions and forums about the law, current legal issues, and legal careers; socio-legal events; lectures; conferences; legal quizzes; and other legal competitions or law-related events.
  2. To bring together students who have a common interest in law and provide them assistance and an avenue to express their concerns, goals, and interests in the pursuit of a career or education in the legal field.
  3. To promote the understanding of the legal profession, the rule of law, the legal process, court procedures, court etiquette and the justice system.
  4. To maintain and enhance the reputation and integrity of competitions and to excel at competitions related to law, and to prepare and select students for external competitions and establish selection criteria thereof.
  5. To decorate law students who triumphantly represent the University.
  6. To do every lawful act to fulfill the aspirations enshrined in the Preamble.

The Dean shall be the Patron of the society and will be assisted by the Faculty Committee comprising of the Head of the Department and faculties of the School of Legal Studies, IU, Sikkim.
